I can say that there is no blanket instruction to deny a mortgage to someone whose standing orders have been returned. It is at the bank's discretion and each case is handled individually. Did it happen due to a lack of money or mismanagement, as sometimes occurs, for example, in a divorce process?. The Credit Data Law stipulates that data concerning problems like those you describe is kept for five or three years, depending on the severity of the problem. Therefore, since this happened a year and a half ago, in approximately another year and a half, you will likely no longer have a problem performing any action except at the bank where the direct debits were returned.
